So THAT'S How They Do It

Have you ever had that ah-ha moment of...So THAT'S how they do it?!

Well, I wanted to share five quick things that I've learned over the years that have made me say just that.

1. How to cut a mango: They have those thick pits in the middle that I've never knew how to properly cut around to get those nice cubes. Here's how!

3. Simple Green cleaning solution mixed with some water is a a simple cleaning solution for your jewelry. Learned this from a Chicago jeweler! Can let rings soak in solution over night - gently brush with soft toothbrush. Hello sparkle!

4. Learn a super simple cloth napkin fold. It's a fun trick to bust out.

5. Newspaper really does work for cleaning windows without leaving the lint behind AND those blue shop towels you can find in the auto section of the store OR free at gas stations are the best for household cleaning - they are sturdy and lint free!

What fun things have you learned? Do tell!

Sincerely,
Sara Cate

Words of Wisdom Wednesdays

Bringing back the Words of Wisdom Wednesdays!

Don't mind criticism. If it is untrue, disregard it; if unfair, keep from irritation; if it is ignorant, smile; if it is justified it is not criticism, learn from it.

Floods and Outdoor Weddings Do NOT Mix

Rain is supposedly good luck on your wedding day. However, flash floods that start 12 hours prior to your outdoor wedding are your worst enemy. Who things about flash floods in Arizona?!

Anyhow, here's how the wedding that was supposed to take place at my in-laws back yard on Saturday played out......

3am: beings raining cats and dogs
8am: still raining buckets
9am: go and eat breakfast with my MIL expecting the rain to cease
10am: still pouring - we go rain boot shopping as we don't want to wear heels in the backyard if it's been raining all day.
10:30am: Dashing calls me from the house and informs us the back yard is flooded, even under the tent (that was put up for the suspected showers).

11am: Dashing calls me and his mom to tell us a big tree in the backyard has just been uprooted because the ground is so water logged (see roots). Dashing watched it come out of the ground and moved two people out of the way.

11:10am: My MIL, one of the other groomsmen's moms, and I start calling everyone we know to try to find a different INDOOR location. All the local country clubs and community centers had moved their outdoor events indoors - out of luck here. One of my best friend's and her husband offered up their remodeling-in-progress luxury home investment properties. We, and the groom and groomsmen, go check it out. It could definitely work, but it isn't the beautiful backyard where the groom has many memories growing up, where he always thought he'd get married.

12noon: Groom decides he wants to make the backyard work....We don't think this is an option at all. Bride still doesn't really know what's going on as she and the bridesmaids are getting ready at a nearby hotel. It is still raining. The flooding worsens. Electricity in the backyard shuts down because of the water.

12:20pm: My MIL pulls groom aside and says "Honey, you cannot get married here today." "Really?" says the groom. Tears follow as he calls his bride, whom he is supposed to marry in this very back yard in FOUR hours.

12:30pm: One of the groomsmen's mothers gets word that a family friend has offered up her luxury home (not under remodel). Groom goes and checks it out......we're already packing up the backyard. Tables in pick-ups, lanterns in cars. Then we get word..........IT'S A GO!

1:00pm: Transport everything to new location. It's beautiful! Call bride and tell her she's going to get married in a house she's never laid eyes on. She was such a good sport. I cannot imagine the emotions she and the groom felt. The Groomsmen, family, and friends all pulled together.....

AND We moved and set up the entire wedding in 4 hours. Guests were called to tell them the new location and a delay of 1.5 hours.

Parking arrangements even had to change and we got our cousin to come and run the valet for us (with 30 minutes notice!).  Whew!

It turned out beautiful. A wedding truly to remember. The bride and groom beamed with happiness and joy. The day was truly filled with love. It took ALL of us to pull this off. It clearly showed the couple how much they are loved by family and friends.

Here's how it turned out!

cake - made by groom's mother!

head table - that was the home owners dining table!

success to all of our hard work!

Hope your weekend was filled with as much triumph in the face of challenges, love, laughter, and memories as mine was.

Here comes the bride...

No, no, not me. Dashing's best friend all the way back from elementary school, Wes, is marrying the love of his life, Ashley, this weekend. I'm so excited to go celebrate with them as they start this new chapter of life.

I loved Dashing and my wedding. The events leading up to the big day and even the days following were filled with love, family, friends, and memories. We talk about a repeat of that week all the time. I also love to say, let's get married again so I can wear another beautiful dress! He laughs. If we pulled off another amazing wedding (never to replace the first!), I'd wear a dress like this.....

Love seeing two people in love make the commitment to one another for today and always. Congratulations and best wishes to Wes and Ashley! I'll share photos next week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I Dream of Kristen Bell

They say that when you're pregnant, you may experience unique dreams. My case is no different.

I've had dreams about a cat-human species trying to murder my real cat. I've dreamt a family member was put in jail for hot-dog theft. One dream was that my husband kissed another woman, and when I found out and confronted him about it saying "How could you do this,  you're going to be a dad!" he said "What are you doing to do, divorce me over a kiss?" I said sobbing...."Maybe." I woke up sad and angry that morning! Many more escape my memory at the time, but those are the tame ones I can quickly remember.

Last night was no exception.

I dreamt I was a part of Veronica Mars. Not the television show, but that the episodes were just real life. You know, that television show that ran from 2004-2007 staring the beautiful Kristen Bell?

WB

WB

I became addicted to the re-run marathons this year. I had never seen it before, and now I'm like "Why did they ever cancel this!" I also love Kristen in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. We should be best friends.

Anyhow, back to the story. I was somewhere with a dock and there was a large yacht, or maybe a small cruise ship. Think San Diego on a sunny day with a slight breeze. All of a sudden, Veronica Mars tells everyone in port that we have to get everyone off of the yacht because there is a hurricane coming right now. Everyone rushes to the ship to start escorting people to land. I, pregnant, am waddling to go grab some children and help them off the ship. I'm grabbing the last two kids to get them to land. All of the passengers and dock visitors are cheering me on to hurry and run down the dock to get to land because there is a huge wave creeping up right behind me. Think cartoon style wave that is cresting 50 feet high and was born out of a calm sea. I trip. Fall on my pregnant belly. The little boy I was carrying tumbles to the ground. The little girl I was holding hands with helps me and the little boy up with only a few scratches. Cheers to Go Go Go! are roaring from the crowd. We hurry off the dock just as the waves crash down upon the yacht smashing it to pieces. No worries though - we got everyone off the ship and the water didn't touch land. Dream over.

Hmmmmm.

28 Weeks and still going strong!

The three day weekend is over, and now it's back to the daily grind. Over the weekend, I kept busy with daily 3 mile walks with Dashing in Arizona's 75 degree weather, trips to the gym, cleaning out my car, grocery shopping, cleaning the house....and naps with our cat, Sophie. Twenty-eight weeks into pregnancy and sometimes I feel like a million bucks with loads of energy and other times I feel like staying in pajamas and napping all day! I hear the latter will soon become the norm.

So here's the rundown:

Pregnancy Highlights
How far along: 28 Weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: About 15 lbs.
Maternity Clothes: Oh yes. Maternity pants and leggings are so much more comfy!
Best Moment this Week: First time feeling her have the hiccups!
Gender: Sweet girl - Grace Elizabeth
Movement: Lots. I can especially feel her when I'm still.
Food Cravings: Nothing. Most things seem blah right now, although cereal and cheese are always hits (preferably not together)
Food aversions: None.
What I Miss: Sleeping through the night.
Sleep: Crazy dreams, routinely waking up around 3am for about an hour.
What I am looking forward to: our check up appointment on Thursday, finishing our registry, more work on Grace's nursery.

28 weeks, before a workout

Have a great day!

Grace's Nursery - Inspiration

Interior design is always an interesting subject in our home. You see, my MIL is an interior designer and my Dashing definitely inherited those genes. He has a "style," opinions on color palettes, and furniture preferences. On the positive side, he always wants to be involved in house-hold decisions and is genuinely interested. On the negative side, that means he has an opinion on everything and I can't just pick everything I want for any room in the house. I realize that is part of marriage (darn! hehe).

See his style is Indiana Jones travels the world:

My style is a little more chic and refined.
Follow Me on Pinterest to check out my style.

So lots of compromise has to come from both sides on design. I must say that Dashing usually does a little bit more conceding because he likes to see me happy (so sweet). So, here are some of our nursery design inspiration photos. I do have to say, I'm ecstatic about all of them. We're working from a budget, so I'm keeping track of everything that we spend so I can share what the cost ends up being. More nursery updates to come!

Sincerely,
Sara Cate

Test Day

Today, I had my gestational diabetes glucose test. Here's the run down..... starve fast all morning, drink an orange soda the prescribed sugar drink in under 5 minutes,
then wait an hour while people, typically over the age of 75, shuffle in and out of the lab waiting area for their turn to provide urine samples. This means there are adults helping out their elderly parents, shouting at the top of their lungs to translate messages from the desk clerk to the parent about where to put their "sample."  I felt like I was living through an episode of the Golden Girls mashed with a nursing home nightmare.

Interesting right?

Well, I finally got my blood drawn and quickly escorted myself to the closest Paradise Bakery to eat some soup and a sandwich. Unfortunately, it was not satisfying at all - I should have ordered the usual and not the experimental meal. I hate it when that happens! Anyways, I'm feeling great so I'm hoping my test results show it too.

Here's what my 27 weeks and 2 days looks like!

Happy Wednesday!
Sincerely,
Sara Cate

What a Weekend! Now onto Third Trimester!

I had such a great time this weekend helping host my friend's baby shower (photos to come soon), but my husband's shenanigans weekend looked like lots of fun too. He celebrated his best friend who is to be married at the end of the month by going golfing....

to the shooting range.....
a stop at In and Out Burger, and of course some poker (yes a few beers too).

Yes, this is one of Dashing's favorite shirts. Permission to laugh granted.

Dashing and his friends are hysterical and and make me laugh so much! OK, this may be TMI, but yesterday after dinner at an Indian food restaurant, Dashing had me laughing so hard that I couldn't keep my meal down. There isn't much room in my belly anymore as evidence below! Third trimester....here we go!

27 Weeks
Hope your weekend was wonderful!

Sara Cate

Is our little one a GIRL or BOY?!

We live an hour and a half from most of our family and friends and across the country from others, so we wanted to come up with a unique way to share the sex of our little love. We decided to make a video message...here is what we shared!

A Family Affair

The anticipation for Dashing and me to go on family outings with our own little one is growing every day. This weekend, we spend some time with his parents in Tucson. We went site seeing, went on walks, ate at great restaurants, and of course, made a pit stop in Buy Buy Baby. Spending time with family fills me with warmth and love. I can’t believe it will be on us to soon provide that for our own child. Here were some of our adventures this weekend.
More on the bump tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Sara Cate
