Wide Awake

Last night was one of those nights; you know, the ones where you just lie there in bed with 1,000 things running through your mind. I was thinking..."I wonder if I could become a kickboxing instructor - maybe open my own stationary boutique - what should I pack for my weekend trip [yay! going to Coronado for the weekend!] - oh, my PhD program starts Monday - when am I going to have time to sleep....maybe I should do that now and stock up on hours - hmmm, I'm hungry..."


Whew! What a whirlwind that was. So I pounced out of bed at 11pm to jump on my computer to keep my overactive brain entertained for a bit. Yes, I pounced. I had that much energy/that wide awake! However, it's taking a toll on me today - total punishment! The positive? I have a new 10 things to do in the next 10 years list! Please tell me I'm not the only one that has these kind of nights? What do you think about when you're lying awake?

I had an extremely overactive mind last night. I had to get up take a shower and read a book to get calmed down. And I woke up this morning about 30 minutes before my alarm. I had a lot on my mind!

When I do that I try to do this "relaxing muscles" thing where I tighten each muscle in different parts of my body and then release :) Also, I get out of bed and make a to-do list, then I usually feel a little better. :)

I definitely have had this happen to me before! I normally try and clear my brain before I go to bed so it doesn't happen otherwise I'll never go to sleep.

This is funny, because I've been thinking the same thing lately. At times, I just want to jump out of bed and write down everything I'm thinking so I can remember it in the morning, but then I know I'll be too tired come day light. I do something similar to Emily's "relaxing muscles" thing. However, instead, I lay on my back and focus on relaxing every single part of my body, starting with my toes, and ending with the top of my head. Sometimes I'm asleep even before I get to my head! (Pay special attention to your hands and jaw, as you often times don't even realize they're so tense)! Hope it helps :)

Usually I'm thinking about teaching and the constant list of improvements I can always make in my life. You are NOT the only one who can't shut her brain off. It happens to me all. the. time.
